Timex Watches – A Classic Brand Still Going Strong
Timex watches were first launched in 1949 and are one of those classic brands that are consistently reliable and updated from a style and functional perspective to keep up with key watch trends. The company originally began as the Waterbury Clock company, which produced the first affordable watches in America in the 1850’s. Over the years, the Waterford Clock company evolved into the Waterbury Watch Company but when the Great Depression hit America in the 1940’s, this company was bought out by the U.S. Time Company who were then responsible for the production of Timex watches.
Timex is one of those watch brands that is respected for its high quality and reliable watches and during the 1940’s to the 1970’s, most households owned at least one Timex watch. Throughout this period, 500 million mechanical Timex watches were sold and the brand was the most popular in America. Due to emerging competition, Timex was forced to keep up with style and mechanical trends and in the 1980’s the brand introduced a range of new digital watches called the ‘Ironman Triathlon’ which were geared towards sports purposes and athletes. As the brand already had a loyal consumer base, this new watch also became extremely popular and actually became the country’s best selling watch. Over the next two decades, the excellent reputation of Timex watches grew following the launch of further innovate designs.
High tech features that were incorporated into Timex watches include electroluminescent watch faces and this is a feature which has continued through to the watches today in the form of the brand’s Indiglo night light. Moving with the technologies extra features were added to Timex watches including calendars and electronic organisers. In the 1990’s, the company collaborated with Microsoft and Motorola in joint ventures to produce other complex watches and pagers.
Timex is still an incredibly popular brand today and has once again revamped its collections to make them more relevant to current trends but still retain that favoured affordability and high quality. Many Timex include fun and colourful designs which also incorporate patterns and some of these are designed specifically for children. Timex watches are available in a variety of designs ranging from sporty and casual to chic and smart. The main objective of the brand has always been to produce affordable watches with functionality and the new Timex models include smarter watches with multi-functions which include speed and distance calculations and even health monitors.
Timex watches are a great example of a brand that has existed for a number of decades but still continues to be respected for those same core values as in the 1940’s. By providing a great range of fun, stylish, versatile and affordable watches for men, women and children in a variety of styles with superb function abilities, people recognise that Timex is a brand that they can trust who continue to manufacture watches that are budget friendly, durable, robust and stylishly on trend.
