The Best Light Alarm Clock
Waking up to a loud
light alarm clock
in the morning can be stressful and annoying. Instead of making you get out of bed, you groan, turn off the alarm and burrow under the covers. It's no wonder more and more people are turning to light alarm clocks to get them up in the morning.
Several studies show that a loud, jarring sound like that emitted by a regular alarm clock can increase stress levels. Now who wants to start his or her day with stress? A wake-up light, on the other hand, uses no noise, only light to wake you up gradually.
Basically it works like this: you set it just like a normal alarm clock. About thirty minutes before you set it to go off, it starts to emit a soft glow, which gets brighter and brighter gradually. The light hits your eyelids, sending a signal to your brain that it is time to wake up. It really is like waking up to natural daylight, and this is why the device is also known as a dawn simulator.
Some brands offer clock models that also act as sunset simulators, helping you transition from bright light to dim lighting to encourage your body to wind down, relax, and go to sleep. Some other models offer extra features, such as a beeper you can set in case the light doesn't wake you up, white noise to mask background noise to help you sleep better, and FM radio tuners.
So if you are tired of being startled out of your wits or feeling like you are having a mild heart attack from waking up to a loud, jarring noise that makes you think your fire alarm went off while you were asleep, consider getting a sunrise clock and wake up gently to start the day right.
