What are Outdoor Clocks?
Outdoor clocks or garden clocks are clocks that are made to resist the weather and other outdoor elements. They are typically designed to be sturdier than most indoor clocks. While the do not sacrifice style or charm, they offer a bit more functionality than your regular clocks do. For instance, many of the outdoor clocks available will include features such as time, temperature and humidity readings. They are made specifically to resist moisture and operate for long periods of time with little or no maintenance. Since they are often in direct sunlight, they usually include materials that are resistant to damage from heat and resistant to fading.
Many outdoor clocks are designed similarly to indoor clocks except that they include grommets or seals to keep moisture out. Some are made with cast housings. Cast iron is resistant and strong. These clocks have a "permanent" look and feel, which is nice for a garden. Gardens are great places for timeless styles rather than trendy ones. Iron clocks look great in gardens and are strong enough to be a part of the environment for a long time. This particular style will compliment other wrought iron or rustic garden features as well.
You can also find clocks with actual ceramic or stone mosaic exteriors. These particular materials are excellent for a garden space for many reasons. They are already present in many forms in the garden and they are quite natural there. These materials resist rain, sun, temperatures and other outdoor elements. They also fit in visually in a garden environment. These clocks are a bit more fragile and will not hold up to physical concussion quite as well but will last forever if treated well. You can find these in molded or mosaic styles. Some are even painted with different cultural designs or garden themes.
Many modern outdoor clocks are now made to be even more resistant to the extremes of an outdoor environment. These are often manufactured using a substance called resin. These resins are sometimes natural and sometimes man-made like plastics. These resins are used because they can be used to create extremely rugged designs. The resins can endure violent blows such as dropping on the ground without breaking or cracking. These resin materials are also easily molded with precision to create any shape needed. This allows for more precise engineering than other plastics and this also allows the texture of the finished product to appear more natural by forming any shape imaginable. These resin clock housings are also significantly less expensive to manufacture and as a result, are often offered at substantially lower prices than some of their classic counterparts.
