Get Help From Friends When Losing Weight
What is the biggest factor in losing weight? Motivation, motivation, motivation. Motivation comes in different forms. Some of it is driven by fear. For example, we are driven by the threat of a job loss. If we do not do well in our job, generally that means a dismissal and an end to a paycheck. Other ways that we are influenced comes internally. We simply want to be the best sales person on the planet and we do whatever it takes to become that person. Still another way we motivate ourselves comes in the form of peer pressure, quite frankly. Peer pressure has a negative connotation, generally. However, in the instance of motivating you to hit that gym in Birmingham and start losing some weight, having friends and family members helping you out can be a great motivator.
Having those who have already gone down the road to the gym in Birmingham and started a weight loss program help you out can be a great way to kickstart your program, as well. Seeing some of their triumphs and having them encourage you is a tremendous emotional and mental lift. When you see someone who is in the same situation as you actually having a workout program that they are adhering to and a nutritional plan, also, can show us that we can do the same.
Here are three tips you can use to get help from those around you:
1) I'm walkin' - This isn't just an old Fats Domino song (from the 50's). A walking program is a great way to get started and a great way to get others involved, too. One thing about a fitness program that all can agree on is to start slowly. Walking is a great beginning. Walking is great for your heart and it is also a great way to make a fitness strategy social. Ask others if they will walk with you. One thing that keeps us going is the encouragement from others. If you get even one other person to walk with you it can be a great way to keep you in a routine and hold each other accountable.
2) Work it out - Ok, so you have started a walking group. From there, you can graduate to a more extended routine. Perhaps, this is where you head to the gym in Birmingham. There are generally a number of low-cost, or payment option facilities that you can use to amp up your work out regimen. What you will be able to take advantage of in a gym are the additional aerobic machines like ellipticals, rowing machines, and stair-steppers as well as aerobic classes. You can add to that by working in some weight training, as well. Again here, take some workout buddies with you. As in walking, it helps add to your motivation when there are others there with you.
3) Ohmmm, Yoga - Looking for another way to include friends into an exercise program? Take some with you to that gym in Birmingham and sign up for a yoga or Pilates class. Here's another thought. Create a Pilates or yoga class yourself. Perhaps you can rotate the locale of that class to each member's home on a regular basis. I'm sure you, or someone in your group has some old DVD's just collecting dust on shelf somewhere. Pull them out and start a program. It's easy and can be a lot of fun.
The boot you need to not only get started, but keep going, can come from those around you. Use those to your advantage, and to their advantage, as well. The energy you will get from working out with a group will continue to motivate you to achieve your goals. You will be amazed at the progress and how much fun you will have along the way, as well.
