Throughout the country there are numerous attractions depicting both culture and nature proving to be irresistibly alluring to its many visitors.
The province of Siem Reap, in Western Cambodia is a not only considered one of the country's major tourist hubs but synonymous for its close proximity to the temples of Angkor and the Archaeological Park. It is also home to other ruins making the province a popular destination for Khmer culture.
The Angkor Temple Complex is a favourite tourist hot-spot as visitors are drawn by its sheer scale and mysterious aura. This world heritage site was home to the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries. The temples not only offer a mirror into the pre-historic life of that civilization but its narrow, intricate staircases and sandstone carving together with its picturesque sunsets enhances the splendor of Angkor.
A visit to the Royal City of Angkor would be incomplete without a viewing of the 11th century architectural masterpiece of the Baphuon Temple. Also known as the Tower of Bronze, it was built by King Udayadityavarman II and dedicated to God Shiva. This mountain temple hosts a shrine which has a number of terraces and galleries and inside one can view intricately carved scenes said to be inspirations from the Ramayana. A highlight of the Baphuon Temple is the impressive causeway, measuring over 200 meters in length which forms a passage to the main sanctuary.
Being the city closest to the Temples, Siem Reap hosts numerous possibilities for both lodging and dining. For the weary traveller, who seeks relaxation, a stay in a luxury hotel in Siem Reap will prove to be just the panacea needed before embarking on exploring the province further. A Siem Reap hotel worth mentioning is the elegant Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, located just eight kilometers away from the temples complements the magical site. It also provides the perfect base to visit the temples and other attractions that Siem Reap has to offer. The hotel's luxurious yet charming accommodation and facilities enhances the allure of the Angkor leaving a lasting impression.
